Sailing Stories
sailing has always been a passion. This collection is about capturing that special sense of adventure that you only feel on the water.
'Doris leigh' at sea
The Bawley 'Doris Leigh' is a famous feature on the River Medway. The title is a little misleading as technically this is not the sea.
This illustration is based on a wonderful and entirely incidental moment where sailing back from Queenborough we happened across Doris in Half Acre Creek on the River Medway on a crisp November afternoon.
sailing the broads
'Blue Jay' is a beautiful example of a classic dayboat sailing yacht found on the Norfolk broads. As a Tela 17 she is closer in size to a dinghy but with lines and proportions that give her a class and looks of a grander vintage yacht.
I was fortunate to meet her Skipper and Mate during a holiday in the stunning Norfolk Broads.
summer breeze
'Summer Breeze' is a modern sloop. Here she is sailing her home waters on the River Medway in front of Upnor Castle.
Summer Breeze is my own boat and has carried us on many adventures hither & yon.
beating TO windward
The Yacht 'No Rival' beating furiously off the coast of the famous Isle of Wight Needles.
'No Rival' is a stunning example of a Nonsuch 30. A Canadian boat with a rig not unlike a windsurf.
living the life
Sailing is all well and good but what if you don't want to spill your gin and tonic?
The crew of this Beneteau Gran Turismo can enjoy a level of comfort and speed in this 'high life' scene.
